D170
Dinky 170 Lincoln Continental. In 'Chilean' mid sky blue. Excellent plus/ in number specific Chilean card box! Exceptionally rare Chilean version. The first time these models, hitherto largely unknown, have come to the market place.
Notes
Bringing into focus a new seam of Dinky export, we are thrilled to be able to offer these remarkable models for sale. Issued in extremely low numbers at the time, they were assembled and painted in Arica, a duty-free city on the Northern tip of Chile. These exceptionally rare models were discovered by a Dinky collector on a trip to South America. The castings were made in the U.K. and then assembled and painted in Chile. It appears that if the British version came in a perspex box, a numbered/generic Chilean card box was used, otherwise the model came in a standard British card box.
A most eye-catching example finished in a mid sky blue, throughout including the roof, chrome bumpers, black base, shaped spun wheels, opening bonnet and boot.
Note that there are a few retouches in a darker paint colour at the rear window and boot line. Note too a a little paint loss at the opening bonnet. Minor faint discolouration on the boot (faint yellowing). Couple of little rubs to the chrome bumpers.
Presented in the authentic, number specific ?ARMADO EN ARICA? (Made in Arica) Chilean issue card box with red DINKY TOYS print. Complete, with all end flaps. Some wear and tear.
Especially thrilling to have sight of these hitherto unknown Dinky boxes!
