Notes
The Monty Calme landmark Corgi Collection, covering the width and breadth of Corgi models amassed over decades by an exuberant collector. The Monty Calme collection is a truly astonishing gathering of the best of Corgi models and ephemera, including rare and unique pieces and point of sale items. The largest collection we have ever seen.
Monty says: “One of only 3 ever made – one for Marcel Van Cleemput, one for Enzo Ferrari and one for the head of the ‘RAC’. I did not manage to get it from Sotheby’s at the time, but purchased it later. I count myself very lucky to have owned this one!”
We are delighted to offer for sale one of the rarest Corgi models – one of only 3 commissioned and gold-plated at the Corgi factory. This is the actual example owned by Marcel Van Cleemput (chief designer for Corgi) and sold through Sotheby’s Auction House London in 1999. The other 2 gold-plated examples were owned by Enzo Ferrari and Neal Eason Gibson (head of the RAC at the time). Lot number 323:
An exquisite example with a beautiful and rich gold-plated finish. Opening boot with detailed engine and spare wheel. Window glazing. Fine original tyres and spoked wheels. Rivetted base.
Tiny wear to the gold-plating only.
This is an exceptional and rare item. Bearing in mind its history, this is a joy to own and a stunning investment piece.
