C325
Pre-production Corgi 325 Ford Mustang Fastback 2 + 2 Competition Model. Very near mint/boxed (correct that this model would be housed in a 320 box, since no 325 box had been made at this time). Rare version with RED SILLS & spoked wheels. A remarkable model from The MBU Collection. See relevant section on FAQ for details on "Offers Invited'. QDT guide £1000+
Notes
From an important high quality Corgi collection which includes pre-production/colour trials, promotional models, t.v. related items and very rare pieces. Please see our Blog on this collector.
Purchased by the owner at Sotheby’s Auction in 1990. A unique pre-production example of the Ford Mustang Fastback 2 + 2 model – the rare version in white with red stripes and sills.
For this pre-production model, the casting for Corgi 320 Mustang was used – note the cream interior (used for the production 320 colour issues in in deep blue and also lilac). Note the Corgi dog plug-in section – but of course this racing Mustang does not have a Corgi dog in place – and neither did the production model of the 325 Mustang!
The production version of the 325 would have a blue interior with no Corgi dog plug-in.
Note too, that this pre-production piece has wide red stripes. Here is a picture of the production red stripes and sills version for comparison which shows narrower red stripes:
Here is the pre-production example:
This model went into production between 1965-69. Just like the production version, this model has jewelled headlights, complete Mustang radiator label, suspension on spoked wheels. Fine original tyres. Rivetted base.
Housed in a 320 box since no 325 box had been made at this time. Note that the 320 numbers at end flaps were crossed out in black ink. Light wear/grubbiness only.
An extremely rare opportunity to add this pre-production model to your collection. An exceptional investment piece to enjoy.
