D989
Dinky 989 Car Carrier 'Auto Transporters'. Near mint plus/boxed. Very scarce U.S. export issue in gold and cellophane export box from The Continental Collection.
Notes
This rare export issue was made between 1963-65 and sold in the U.S.
Striking colour combination of pale grey, deep metallic blue and lemon with red plastic wheels. ‘AUTO TRANSPORTERS’ lettering at the sides, complete on one side, the other side has a little background rubbing to one small area.
In close to mint condition with a very few little marks – fewer than one might expect for a large model with moving parts. The cog on the underside of the model works to lower the upper deck.
Note the little factory assembly chip toward the rear on one side. A couple of little light tyre flat spots and a little surface split to one. Easily overlooked, there is a small (probably factory) retouch on the cab roof.
One of a very few we have ever offered for sale in this export gold card and cellophane box. Such a fragile box to hold this Dinky heavyweight! Not surprising that this box has some wear. The original cellophane has been replaced at some time and the card has had some repairs too.
A difficult find in any condition and very few have survived in this export box.
