French Dinky 553 Peugeot 404. Charcoal issue. Very rare South African model. Excellent plus/boxed (correct Afrikaans issue). Directly from a collector in South Africa. A first for QDT! Starting bid £1500. Please note that QDT apply 12.5% buyer's commission.
Notes
A rare find – and the first we have ever offered for sale in this distinctive deep charcoal grey shade. In all original condition with black treaded tyres (very minor marking). Bright red interior. Shiny shaped spun wheels.
Correct that the baseplate is standard for this model, as these were assembled in South Africa using English components (1963). Distinctive and correct South African rivets.
Note the two thin lines of paint loss to a side body line (probably caused by prolonged box contact)and a few little bumper marks. Tiny marking on the roof. Mere dot or two besides.
Few Dinky collections can boast one of these, correctly presented in the Arthur E. Harris South African box!
The pictorial box with Afrikaans text is bright and complete. Note the residue from old tape and a small area of surface loss on one side. Period penned price on an end flap. Light residue from a price label on the top surface.
One of the rarest Dinky toys you can buy!
