Dinky Toys Gift Set 60 Aeroplanes
Aeroplanes by Dinky Toys, Gift Set No. 6. Near mint - very near mint/boxed. Remarkable Pre-War with 1st issue contents. 3rd issue lid with DINKY TOYS lettering. From The QDT Vault.
Notes
Dated April 1936, this is a highly decorative Gift Set which is one of the few that have survived over 80 years.
The 1st issue contents (with no registration letters on the wings) are strung to the pale blue card insert.
The set comprises:
1) 60a Imperial Airways Liner, with ‘Sunray’ design in gold and dark blue (so eye-catching). Very near mint.
2) 60b De Haviland Leopard Moth in green and yellow. Near mint, although note the small ‘blown’ spot on one side.
3) 60c Percival Gull in white and mid-blue. Very near mint.
4) 60d Low Wing Monoplane in red and cream. Near mint, although note the few dots of retouching and a small ‘blown’ spot on one side.
5) 60e General Monospar. Near mint plus ( small ‘blown’ spot).
6) 60F Cierva Autogiro in gold and blue. Near mint plus ( light wear to finish and a few tiny fatigue lines.
The pale blue insert is clean and complete, with tiny wear only.
Vivid blue card base has light wear.
The colourful 3rd issue ‘DINKY TOYS’ lid has bright colours and a small area of discolouration one side. A little wear/grubbiness besides and a blue colour spot at a lid side.
A poignant Dinky survivor to cherish.
