Dinky Gift Set 298 "Emergency Services"

Notes

This is a scarce set – only the third example we have ever handled!
Issued between 1963-66, it comprises:

1) 258 Ford Fairlane. Near mint plus, with an original shiny black finish, intact ‘roof light’, and complete POLICE lettering front and rear. Original white-painted doors with ‘POLICE’ lettering on both doors. Shiny spun wheels with suspension and original fine tread (as-new!) tyres. Original aerial is no longer present. Matt baseplate. Couple of chips to the paint finish.

2) 263 Superior Criterion Ambulance. Very near mint, with patient on stretcher. Original off-white finish with intact ‘roof light’ and siren. Red detail at the sides. Complete ‘Ambulance’ transfers on one side, very nearly so on the other. With both seated figures.

3) 276 Fire Tender. Very near mint. Vibrant red finish throughout (no sunfading whatsoever!). Fine lustre. Intact roof light, water cannon and a shiny bell. Complete ‘AIRPORT FIRE CONTROL’ lettering on both sides. Shiny spun wheels. Original treaded tyres. Matt base. Occasional little mark.

4) 277 Superior Criterion Ambulance. Very near mint with a metallic blue and white finish, both seated figures, intact roof light, and siren. Shiny spun wheels, original white tyres. Matt base. Complete ‘AMBULANCE’ transfers on both sides. A few mere dots to the paint finish.

Condition of the contents are in our opinion the originals from the set (i.e. not a later ‘made-up’ set with swapped contents).

Complete with all of the original figures and original hose.

The box is complete and vividly-coloured with no sunfading, heavy grubbiness or heavy wear. No rips or graffiti. Colours are fresh and clean. Remains of the old sellotape can be seen in places on the lid and there are three small areas of surface removal. Very light wear.

Card insert is complete, clean and intact.
