South African Dinky 184 Volvo 122S
Volvo 122S by South Africa Dinky Toys, No. 184. In BRIGHT MID-BLUE, WHITE interior. Exceptionally rare Dinky model & a First for QDT! Very near mint/unboxed. Direct from a private collection in South Africa. Starting bid £500. Please note that QDT apply 12.5% buyer's commission.
Notes
Unfinished models were exported to South Africa from 1966. They were sent as castings and painted and assembled there, largely as a way of getting around the laws prohibiting export of finished goods to South Africa at this time. All housed in Dinky boxes with some Afrikaans text and of course most importantly the Arthur E.Harris print on the box.
Finished in original and attractive bright mid-blue with a white interior, shiny spun wheels, silver trim, shiny black base, South African rivets, and well-shaped fine tread tyres.
In very close to mint, original condition:
An exceptional Dinky model and one of the best surviving examples.
